VMW Providers Published In Journal of the American Academy of Physician Assistants

Continuing an Addiction Practice In-Person During a Pandemic

VMW is celebrating the recent publication in the Journal of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (JAAPA) by Valley Medical and Wellness' Lindsay Bergstreser, PA-C, a physician assistant, Jonah Poynter, a medical assistant, and Svetlana Zaydman, DO and Ashwin George, MD, both physicians.

Check out their 2021 AAPA Poster Session Abstract, Continuing an addiction practice in-person during a pandemic!

During the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic, opioid-related overdose deaths skyrocketed in Minnesota. But from the beginning, Valley Medical and Wellness Providers recognized that there were things that could be done to help reduce the barriers to care for those suffering from addiction.

"Although telemedicine is a viable option for addiction medicine care, many legal, ethical, and technologic barriers prevent its broader use, underscoring the importance of maintaining in-person care".

Through the use of modified curbside and telemedicine appointments, as well as enhanced safety protocols and our rapid response to the Covid-19 outbreak in our community by offering rapid turn-around-time for RT-PCR Covid-19 tests, Valley Medical and Wellness was able to remain open during the pandemic and safely provide in-person care to our patients!
