The pain management specialists at Valley Medical and Wellness recommend a variety of interventional therapies, depending on your pain symptoms and origins. These include:

Viscosupplementation

Viscosupplementation treats osteoarthritis of the knees or shoulders. Osteoarthritis is characterized by a breakdown of cartilage that cushions the space between bones at the joints. Usually, osteoarthritis occurs due to natural aging and wear and tear. Viscosupplementation restores hyaluronic acid to your joints, supplying lubrication for smooth movement between bones.

Steroid injections (large and small joint injections)

Steroid injections, or large and small joint injections, provide a steroid injection along with a numbing agent in the joint to reduce inflammation in order to reduce pain in joints that have been injured or damaged due to arthritis or injury. Steroid injections are also used to treat painful tendons or bursitis, which is when the small fluid-filled sac that cushions the joint gets painfully inflamed. The joints most often injected are the shoulder, elbow, knee, hand, wrist or hip.

Trigger point injections

Trigger point injections are injected directly into painful soft tissue (muscle), versus a joint. Trigger point injections use both numbing agents and steroids to relieve pain and help release the tension in the soft tissue.

Prolotherapy

Prolotherapy is another type of injectable treatment which involves the injection of natural substances found in the body, such as dextrose and saline, and a numbing agent to trigger your body’s natural healing response.

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT)

OMT uses hands-on techniques to stretch muscles and move joints to promote healing and relieve pain.

Suboxone treatment

Valley Medical is one of the few clinics in Minnesota to offer Suboxone® treatment for pain management. Suboxone is typically used for opioid addiction but can also be used to manage chronic pain.

Suboxone contains buprenorphine combined with naloxone and is a safer and more effective alternative to other prescription opioids, such as Vicodin and OxyContin. It can be used safely for long periods of time without the risks of tolerance and dependence associated with opioid use.

Patients who have switched to Suboxone from other opioid medications often see amazing results, reduced pain, and improved quality of life. Our providers often recommend Suboxone alongside other pain management therapies.
